AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team cruised to a 12-1 victory over Newberry Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 19-8 on the season.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's squad plated three runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
Evan Harding,
Chancellor Jennings and
Yariel Diaz posted back-to-back-to-back singles to open the game.
Blake Martin quickly knocked everyone in with a three-RBI double to left center field.
Up 3-1 in the second,
Maverick Grigsby drew a four-pitch walk. He was able to trot around the bases as
Joshua Johnson blasted a round-tripper over the left center field wall.
USCA continued scoring in the third. Martin doubled down the right field line and moved to third on
Salvatore Laimo's base knock to left center field. A wild pitch allowed Martin to score.
Johann Rodriguez belted a single to left field, plating Laimo for a six-run cushion, 7-1. Moments later,
Osmin Melendez recorded a single, driving in Rodriguez.
Rodriguez opened the fifth with a double down the left field line. With two down, Melendez knocked him in on a single to left field.
Gorman's team tacked on the final runs in the eighth inning. Harding led off the stanza with a double to left center field and Jennings followed it with a walk. With runners on the corners, Jennings swiped second base. Martin earned a base on balls before Laimo doubled home everyone for an 11-run margin, 12-1.
For the game, Diaz, Harding, Laimo, Martin, Melendez and Rodriguez had two hits apiece. Martin drove in three while Johnson, Laimo and Melendez had two RBI each. Johnson smacked a home run while Martin had two doubles. Harding, Jennings, Martin and Rodriguez all scored twice.
On the mound,
Myles Chabi tossed seven innings and had five strikeouts.
Brady Dunlop and
Nick Napolitano each threw a scoreless inning and had one strikeout apiece.
