AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost a 6-3 decision to Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 17-8 on the year, including 7-4 in PBC action. The Hurricanes stand at 15-10 on the season, including 8-3 in league play.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's team jumped on top with a pair of runs in the first.
Evan Harding singled to left field and moved to second on a fielding error.
Chancellor Jennings reached on a miscue before
Yariel Diaz singled home Harding. Two batters later,
Salvatore Laimo's sacrifice fly pushed Jennings home for a two-run cushion.
In the fourth,
Blake Martin doubled and took third on Laimo's bunt single.
Johann Rodriguez's sacrifice fly allowed Martin to score for a 3-0 advantage.
GSW cut the margin to 3-1 in the sixth and scored five in the eighth for a 6-3 lead.
For the game, Diaz, Harding, Laimo and Martin had two hits apiece. Diaz and Martin each had doubles. Diaz, Laimo and Rodriguez each drove in a run.
On the mound,
Ben Shepherd got the start and tossed seven frames. He had four strikeouts.
Myles Chabi worked a frame as did
Brady Dunlop.
