USCA Takes Down Flagler

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA men's basketball team garnered a 65-59 victory over Flagler Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 11-11 on the season, including 6-8 in PBC play.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's squad was paced by Jonah Lawrence's 16 points and five assists. Josiah Harding added 13 points while McCaskill Rivers totaled 12 points. TJ Jackson tallied eight markers while Caleb Byrd had six. Chedlet Delva posted four points and 15 rebounds while Deandre Smart had four points and four rebounds. William Vasser Jr., chipped in a pair of markers.

In the first half, Rivers buried a three-ball off a pass from Lawrence, knotting the game at 3-3. Lawrence connected on a bucket and Harding's free throw pushed the score to 6-3. Rivers' field goal extended the contest to 8-3 at the 16:40 mark.

Down 16-15, Jackson drilled a shot from distance off Lawrence's solid pass. Flagler held a 22-18 lead before Lawrence hit four straight charity tosses. Rivers buried a jumper as did Harding, pushing the margin to four, 26-22, at the 3:29 mark. Leading 28-26, Byrd canned both free throws at the 54-second mark for a 30-26 edge at halftime.

Leading 36-33, Lawrence nailed a three-point bucket. Holding a three-point edge, Jackson buried a shot from distance. Two free throws by Smart made it 44-36.

A 7-0 spurt by the Pacers extended the margin to 13, 51-38, at the 9:47 mark. Leading 51-49, Byrd hit a pair of free throws as did Rivers. Rivers drilled a jumper and Delva canned two charity tosses for a 59-49 margin with 3:41 to play.

With the score at 62-59, Harding found Lawrence for a thunderous dunk on the break. Harding added a free throw with eight seconds to go for the final score.

For the game, USCA hit 19-of-58 from the floor, including seven-of-24 from downtown. The team canned 20-of-26 charity tosses. Vanderslice's team maintained a 46-40 edge on the glass. USCA pulled down 12 offensive boards. The squad also held an 11-3 edge on the break.
