USCA Splits With Newberry

AIKEN, S.C. - The USCA softball team split a doubleheader against Newberry, winning 7-4 before falling 8-0.

The Pacers are now 8-6 on the year.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team jumped on top in the second inning. After Kate Newberry blooped a single to left field, Madilyn Rouse rocketed an offering over the left field wall for a 2-0 advantage.

With two outs in the third, Peri Rouillard reached on a fielding error. Autumn Fisher promptly made the opposition pay with a thunderous two-run shot over the left field wall for a four-run cushion.

USCA pushed the margin to 5-0. Abbie Kegley drew a two-out walk and raced around to score on Madison Rogers' hard-hit double to center field.

Leading 5-3 in the fifth, Rouillard singled and took second on a sacrifice bunt. After taking third on a passed ball, Rouillard raced home on Fisher's line drive sacrifice fly. Kaylee Bolding ripped a one-out triple to right field in the sixth. Kegley helped her own cause with an RBI double off the left field fence, extending the margin to four, 7-3.

For the game, Rouillard, Fisher, Newberry, Rouse, Bolding, Kegley and Rogers had hits. Fisher drove in three while Rouse knocked in two. Fisher and Rouse crushed round-trippers. Bolding had a triple while Kegley and Rogers posted doubles.

In the circle, Kegley went the distance and had eight strikeouts. She gave up four runs, three of which were earned, on five hits while improving to 5-2.

Game two saw Newberry take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, three in the fourth and two in the fifth.

For the game, Lydia Johnson, Newberry and Rouse had hits.

In the circle, Ally Fleming took the loss. Claire Radford entered and worked five innings of relief with five strikeouts.
