MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The USCA women's basketball team lost a 50-45 decision at Georgia College Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 7-16 on the season, including 4-11 in PBC play.
Head coach
Brittany Batts' squad was guided by
Mahkayla Premo's 12 points.
Zenia Palaska added 11 points, three boards and two steals.
Nika Kurdija accounted for seven points while
Mackenna Nix and
Ioanna Stefanaki tallied five points apiece. Nix garnered eight boards.
Morgan McDermott posted three points and four boards while
Monique Emelifeonwu had two points and six blocks.
Makaylei Snyder had three rebounds while
Destiny Harman dished out two assists.
USCA trailed 7-1 entering the second quarter. McDermott found Premo to get the scoring going for the Pacers. Down 9-3, McDermott nailed a three-ball. Stefanaki connected from downtown while Premo's jumper gave the visitors an 11-9 edge at the 5:53 mark. Snyder found Kurdija for a three-point bucket, extending the margin to four, 14-10. Leading 17-15, Harman found Premo for a shot from deep. Just before the halftime buzzer, Premo struck with an inside shot for a 22-18 advantage entering the third quarter.
USCA embarked on a 6-0 spurt just past the midway point of the third quarter, stretching a 27-24 lead to 33-24. Emelifeonwu found Palaska for a lay-up. Stefanaki hit Palaska for another inside shot. Palaska's charity tosses with 2:49 to play pushed the margin to nine. Up 33-26, Stefanaki canned a lay-up, giving the Pacers a 35-26 advantage at the end of the period.
GCSU pulled within one at 38-37, but Emelifeonwu connected on a twisting lay-up with 5:22 remaining. Palaska's two charity tosses extended the margin to three, 42-39, at the 4:36 mark.
For the game, USCA hit 15-of-52 from the floor, including seven-of-21 from downtown. The squad canned eight-of-16 from the charity stripe. The Pacers pulled down 29 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. Batts' team distributed eight assists, had 28 points off the bench and netted 12 points off turnovers.
