USCA Records Win At Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. – The USCA men's soccer team scored a pair of first-half goals in the 2-0 victory at Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening in the regular-season finale.

The Pacers are now 5-8-1 on the year, including 4-7-1 against conference foes.

Head coach Nick Sakiewicz's squad jumped on top in the 10th minute of action. Carlos Colomer continued his solid play and found the back of the net in the upper right of the goal. Melvin Maboungou was credited with an assist on the play.

Just moments later, Maboungou's attempt was blocked. Johan Morel put pressure on the Hurricanes' defense with a shot on goal at the 17:07 mark, but it was saved. Five minutes later, Michael Bernabe's shot missed high.

GSW countered with four shots over the next 20 minutes of action. However, the defense was up to the task and kept the home team off the board. At the 42:44 mark, Morel found Abdoulie Jallow for a 2-0 advantage entering halftime.

Sean Simoncelli turned away a shot on goal in the 60th minute and Sakiewicz's squad tried to push the advantage to 3-0 three minutes later. However, Riad Zitouni's shot on frame was thwarted. Kenny Kwizera Jr. had a shot that was blocked at the 64:17 mark.

During a seven-minute span, the Hurricanes had five shots, but three were blocked and the other two were not on target.

The Pacers continued pushing forward and Colomer had a shot that was blocked in the 88th minute of action.

For the match, Simoncelli played all 90 minutes in goal and had two saves. Colomer and Jallow each had goals while Maboungou and Morel had assists.

The Pacers return to action Saturday when they enter postseason play in the PBC Tournament. Live stats and video (PPV) will be available at PacerSports.com.
