AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA men's basketball team notched a 92-76 victory over Middle Georgia Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 10-10 on the season, including 5-7 in PBC play.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
Caleb Byrd's 26-point effort.
Jonah Lawrence added 13 points while
Josiah Harding chipped in 12 points and eight boards.
TJ Jackson and
Montraivis White had nine points apiece.
Deandre Smart tallied eight points.
Chedlet Delva posted six points and 16 boards.
McCaskill Rivers added six points and
Brock Cherry chipped in two.
William Vasser Jr., snagged five boards and had a point.
Harding tied the game at 8-8 on a three-point bucket off a pass from Rivers. Trailing 15-8, Smart hit White for a three-ball. With 9:56 to play, White's jumper sliced the deficit to just two, 15-13. Smart connected on a pair of lay-ups and Harding had an inside shot for a one-point lead. Vasser Jr. and White scored, extending the advantage to 22-18 with 7:13 to play.
Down 32-27, Jackson netted five straight points. With two seconds left, Rivers was fouled. He promptly hit both free throws, sending Vanderslice's team to a 38-37 lead at the break.
USCA opened the second frame with an 8-0 spurt and never looked back. Lawrence's three-ball pushed the margin to 11, 48-37, at the 16:19 mark. Holding a 59-50 edge, Lawrence hit a jumper and a three-point basket. Byrd's lay-up made it 66-50 with 8:13 remaining. At the 6:55 mark, Byrd recorded a steal, stopped and buried a 24-foot three-ball for a 17-point cushion, 72-55. With a 74-60 advantage, Lawrence made a free throw. Delva hit an inside shot before Byrd nailed another basket.
USCA hit charity tosses down the stretch and maintained the double-digit advantage the rest of the way.
For the game, USCA hit 30-of-59 from the floor, including 11-of-22 from the three-point stripe. The Pacers buried 21-of-28 from the charity stripe. Vanderslice's team grabbed 44 rebounds, including 11 on the offensive glass. The squad dished out 11 assists and netted 28 points in the paint.
