BEAUFORT, S.C. – The USCA softball team launched three home runs in the 6-2 win at USC Beaufort Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 26-24 on the season, including 11-11 in PBC play.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team took the lead in the top of the first when
Autumn Fisher crushed an offering over the left field wall for a 1-0 advantage.
USCA increased the advantage in the third. With one down, Fisher walked and swiped second base. Two batters later,
Mallory Shaver ripped an offering to left field, driving in Fisher for the two-run margin.
Leading 2-1 in the sixth,
Kate Newberry drew a lead-off walk and
Kaliyah Hensic entered as a pinch runner. Shaver promptly smashed a pitch over the left center field wall for a 4-1 lead.
Anna Tuner and
Lakyn Phillips each singled, but Turner was erased trying to reach third on the play.
Madison Rogers entered as a pinch runner for Phillips and was able to trot home when
Lydia Johnson launched a home run down the left field line for a five-run cushion.
For the game, Shaver posted two hits, including a home run, and drove in three. Fisher and Johnson also launched round-trippers. Johnson drove in two while Fisher crossed home twice.
In the circle, Phillips tossed a complete game and had six strikeouts. She gave up four hits and allowed two runs, but only one was earned.
