AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA softball team swept Benedict in the home finale by scores of 12-3 and 12-1.
The Pacers are now 24-23 on the season.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team jumped on top of the Tigers with a run in the second stanza.
Alexis Stout and
Tara McGee each walked.
Anna Turner reached on a fielder's choice and McGee scored on an error.
USCA kept things going in the third.
Autumn Fisher walked and swiped second. After a walk to
Kate Newberry,
Mallory Shaver reached on a fielder's choice that erased Fisher. Stout walked to load the bases and McGee lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, knocking in Newberry. Turner singled home Shaver and moments later, Stout scored on a wild pitch.
In the fourth,
Ashlyn White walked and stole second. After a walk to
Peri Rouillard, Fisher laid down a tremendous bunt for a single. Shaver doubled in all three runners for a 7-0 advantage. With the bases loaded, Turner singled in Shaver. Two pitches later,
Lydia Johnson unleashed a powerful swing and connected with the offering, sending it over the left field wall for a grand slam.
For the game, Fisher and Turner led the way with two hits apiece. Johnson crushed a grand slam for four RBI while Shaver and Turner had three and two, respectively. McGee, Shaver and Stout each crossed home twice.
In the circle,
Ally Fleming tossed a complete game and had four strikeouts en route to the victory.
Game two saw the Pacers record back-to-back triples to start the contest. Rouillard tried to score on the triple but was erased at home. Johnson tripled and scored on White's sacrifice fly for a 1-0 advantage.
Mollie Rollings led off the second with a single and took third on a sacrifice bunt from
Alexis Stout.
Cameron Greene lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, knocking in Rollings. USCA pushed across a pair of runs in the third frame. Hensic lifted a sacrifice fly into foul territory to left field and Johnson, who had singled earlier, crossed home. Rollings doubled in White, who had also singled.
USCA plated eight runs in the fourth to break things open, including a three-run shot by Greene over the center field fence. Turner and
Sage Dowis posted back-to-back doubles. Johnson singled in
Madison Rogers, who entered as a pinch runner.
Kaliyah Hensic singled in Rouillard before Rollings' base hit plated Johnson and Hensic for a 9-1 advantage. After a single by Stout, Greene belted the three-run shot for the 12-1 margin.
For the game, Johnson and Rollings had three hits apiece while Turner had two. Greene drove in four runs while Rollings plated two. Johnson scored three times and Rollings crossed home twice.
In the circle,
Lakyn Phillips worked four innings and had seven strikeouts while giving up one unearned run.
Payton Baker tossed the fifth and had a pair of strikeouts.
