Pacers Advance To PBC Semifinals

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA men's basketball team led by double digits early and cruised to an 88-63 win over Flagler in the PBC Quarterfinals Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 21-8 on the season.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Jalen McCoy's 24-point outburst. Davion Cunningham added 13 points and eight rebounds to go along with three steals. Rafael Rubel hit four shots from distance in the win for 12 points.

Caleb Byrd added nine points while Mason Grant added seven points. Dwight Canady, Jr.,  had five markers in the win. Rhyjon Blackwell tallied five points and five rebounds to go along with three steals. Chedlet Delva snagged eight boards, had three points and swatted three shots.

USCA jumped out to a 12-2 lead just four minutes into the game and never looked back. The Pacers built a 21-2 edge on a lay-up by Blackwell at the 13:23 mark. The Saints pulled within 12 at the 5:37 mark, but Rubel buried a three-point bucket with 5:10 to play.

Vanderslice's team extended the advantage to 17 when Byrd took a pass from Cam Perkins and promptly buried the shot. Up by 15, McCoy made a lay-up with less than a minute to play, giving the Pacers a 42-25 lead at the break.

USCA extended the advantage to 49-29 on a three-point play by McCoy at the 15:46 mark. Moments later, Byrd nailed an inside bucket to go up 53-29. With just under 12 minutes to play, Cunningham buried a shot from distance, pushing the margin to 26, 61-35. 

The Saints cut the margin to 13 with 4:18 to go, but Cunningham nailed another shot from downtown, sparking a 9-0 spurt that sealed the game. 

For the game, USCA hit 29-of-60 (48.3 percent) from the floor, including 11-of-23 (47.8 percent) from downtown. The team buried 19-of-27 (70.4 percent) from the charity stripe. The Pacers held a 37-32 edge on the glass and converted 15 turnovers into 16 points.

The Pacers return to action Saturday in the PBC Semifinals at Columbus State. The team will take on North Georgia. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
