AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost both games of the doubleheader to Lander on Saturday by scores of 12-4 and 6-3.
The Pacers are now 15-19 on the season, including 6-9 in PBC play.
Lander led 2-0 entering the bottom of the first in game one, but head coach
Michael Holder's team responded with a four-run outburst.
Josh Sharp led off the inning with an infield single and promptly stole second. He raced around to score on a base knock by
Capers Molinaroli.
Hunter Thompson doubled in Molinaroli, knotting the game at 2-2.
Wyatt McPherson roped a base hit through the left side of the defense, pushing Thompson to third.
Donovan Glisson's double allowed Thompson to cross home.
Brody Yeomans completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in McPherson for a 4-2 advantage.
The Bearcats scored a run in the second and third and took the lead with a five-run fifth stanza. Lander added a run in the eighth and two in the ninth for the final margin.
For the game, McPherson and Thompson led the way with two hits apiece. Thompson had a pair of doubles.
On the mound,
Cade Bouknight got the start and worked 4.2 innings with two strikeouts.
Cole Evilsizor tossed 2.1 frames and had three strikeouts while
Lucas Highberger worked the final two frames and had a strikeout.
Game two saw Holder's team take a 1-0 lead in the second frame.
Trevor Gruszka drew a four-pitch walk and moved to second on a groundout. After taking third on a passed ball,
Cannon Jones drove him in on an infield single.
Down 4-1 in the fourth,
Dalton Graves was hit by a pitch and swiped second.
Eliud Poventud singled, and Graves hustled to third. Two batters later, Sharp lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, plating Graves to make it 4-2.
Trailing 6-2 in the sixth, Poventud blasted a solo shot over the left field wall with one down.
For the game, Poventud had two hits, including a home run. Molinaroli also notched a pair of base knocks. Jones and Sharp had notched base hits. Jones and Sharp had one RBI apiece. Graves, Gruszka and Poventud scored.
On the mound,
Logan Wise got the start and worked five innings. He also accounted for five strikeouts.
Jared Huse tossed two scoreless innings and had two strikeouts.
