Pacers Fall To Jaguars

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's basketball team lost a 69-44 decision at Augusta Saturday evening.

The Pacers are now 5-16 on the season, including 2-9 in PBC play.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Rhiannon Saller's nine points. Serena Baker totaled eight points and nine rebounds while Sami Bardonaro had eight markers. Paris Webster totaled seven points while Destiny Harman and Kendall Parker had six points apiece. Each had two assists in the game.

Bardonaro's three-point bucket off a pass from Riley Simmons gave the visitors an early 5-2 advantage. Down 9-5, Serena Baker broke through for a lay-up with 3:50 to play. Trailing 11-7, Simmons found Rhiannon Saller for a jumper at the 2:40 mark. Saller hit a free throw with 1:48 to play before the Jaguars answered with a lay-up for a 13-10 edge going into the second quarter.

Miller's team knotted the game on a Webster lay-up at the 8:21 mark of the second stanza. The teams traded baskets – with the Pacers tying the contest on a pair of shots by Saller. After a 7-0 spurt by AU, Parker quieted the crowd with a pair of charity tosses. With the score 31-20, Parker connected with Harman for a three-point bucket just before halftime, slicing the deficit to eight, 31-23.

The Jaguars pushed the margin to 37-24 before Webster hit a jumper. At the 6:11 mark, Webster also drained a free throw, making it a 10-point game. Down 43-31, Gracie Huffard found Harman for a three-point shot, slicing the margin to eight. However, AU went on a 9-1 run to end the frame.

Baker and Webster hit shots in the early going of the fourth stanza. A three-point basket by Bardonaro at the 5:33 mark cut the lead to 14, but USCA could get no closer the rest of the way.

For the game, USCA hit 16-of-51 from the floor, including four-of-17 from downtown. The team canned eight free throws. Miller's squad dished out eight assists and scored 11 points off turnovers. The team accounted for 20 points in the paint and had 10 second-chance points.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday, Feb. 12, when they play at Georgia Southwestern at 5:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
