AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's basketball team lost an 82-53 decision to No. 8 North Georgia Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 6-21 overall, including 3-14 in PBC play.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Serena Baker's 13 points and five rebounds.
Rhiannon Saller and
Paris Webster totaled nine points apiece. Saller snagged a game-best seven boards.
Destiny Harman added five points while
Kendall Parker had a team-best three assists.
USCA trailed 16-4 before Baker hit a lay-up. A basket by Saller pulled the team within eight at the 4:39 mark. The teams went back-and-forth with Miller's squad cutting the deficit to eight on jumpers by
Sami Bardonaro and
Gracie Huffard, but the Nighthawks managed to pushed the lead to 26-14 heading into the second stanza.
The Pacers trimmed the deficit to seven on a three-ball by Webster at the 8:53 mark of the second quarter. Down by nine, Saller nailed a basket, making it 28-21, at the 5:47 mark. UNG managed to take a 46-21 lead into halftime.
USCA trailed by 27 early in the third quarter, but Baker netted four of the team's next six points while Webster had a pair to make it 48-27. Miller's team trailed 60-33, but Parker pulled up from 24 feet out and calmly buried a three-point basket as time expired in the quarter.
Down the stretch,
McKenzie Lott canned a free throw while
Aryanna Ingram hit a jumper. With less than 20 ticks to play,
Olivia Ellis nailed a shot from distance while
Jaya Nelson had a steal and lay-up in the waning seconds.
For the game, USCA hit 22-of-56 (39.3 percent) from the floor, including four-of-15 (26.7 percent) from the three-point line. The squad pulled down 29 rebounds. Miller's team scored 24 points in the paint.
