Pacers Post Road Win At Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The USCA baseball team secured a hard fought 5-4 victory at Francis Marion Wednesday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 8-7 on the season.

Head coach Michael Holder's team jumped on top with a run in the top of the first. Josh Sharp was the catalyst, singling on an 0-2 count before taking second on an error. After hustling to third base on a fly ball, Sharp easily crossed home on Hunter Thompson's infield hit.

Tied at 1-1 in the second, Jack Hobson and Brandon Osypczuk each singled before Cannon Jones walked. Sharp ripped a double to the gap in right center field, knocking in Hobson and Osypczuk. Moments later, Jones scored on a double play for a 4-1 advantage.

FMU scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to knot the score at 4-4. However, Holder's team quickly answered. With one down in the eighth, Donovan Glisson ripped a single through the left side and scored on a Hobson single for a one-run edge, 5-4.

With Charles Herring, Jr., on the mound, the one run was all that the Pacers needed. Herring, Jr., tossed the final 2.2 frames and had four strikeouts en route to earning the victory. Luke Norman got the starting nod and had a strikeout in three innings of work. Damien Ashley tossed 2.2 innings and had a strikeout while Jared Huse threw two-thirds of an inning. He also recorded a strikeout.

For the game, Sharp, Thompson, Glisson and Hobson had two hits apiece. Sharp led the way with two RBI and had the team's lone extra-base hit. Thompson and Hobson recorded one RBI apiece. Sharp, Glisson, Hobson, Osypczuk and Jones crossed home in the victory.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they open PBC play at Claflin at 4 p.m.
