AMERICUS, Ga. – The USCA women's basketball team lost an 83-58 contest at Georgia Southwestern Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 5-17 overall, including a 2-10 ledger in PBC play.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Serena Baker's 16-point, five-rebound effort.
Kendall Parker added 10 points while
Riley Simmons contributed seven points.
Paris Webster had six points and five assists while
Sami Bardonaro and
Rhiannon Saller had five points each.
Gracie Huffard chipped in four points while
Olivia Ellis and
Molly Burns had three points and two points, respectively.
Down 11-2 in the early going, Bardonaro canned a three-ball at the 5:47 mark of the opening quarter. A Simmons lay-up made it 13-7. Trailing 16-7, Webster found Baker for a jumper. On the ensuing possession, Simmons hit Baker for another basket, pulling the team within five at 16-11. The Hurricanes ended the period at 24-11.
With the score at 26-11, Saller converted an old-fashioned three-point play at the 8:32 mark. She and Baker each hit a free throw, bringing the visitors within 10 at 26-16. Trailing 38-21, Parker took a pass from Webster and buried a lay-up at the 1:31 mark. With under a minute to play, Saller found Baker for another inside shot, making it 38-25. A pair of Parker free throws with 10 ticks on the clock pulled the Pacers within 14 at the break.
Baker made it an 11-point game at the 5:44 mark when she drilled a three-ball off a pass from Webster, but that was as close as the Pacers could get the rest of the way.
For the game, Miller's team hit 18-of-54 (33.3 percent) from the floor, including four-of-15 (26.7 percent) from downtown. The squad connected on 18-of-21 (85.7 percent) from the charity stripe. USCA scored 13 points off turnovers and snagged 26 boards, including nine on the offensive glass. The visitors dished out nine assists, had three blocks and netted 10 second-chance points.
