Pacers Take Two From Flying Fleet

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Erskine Tuesday afternoon by scores of 6-5 and 8-3.

The Pacers are now 7-5 on the season.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team jumped on top with three runs in the second inning. Alexis Stout walked and moved to third on a base hit to right field by Cameron Greene. Anna Turner laid down a sacrifice bunt, plating Stout. An error allowed Turner to move to third. Newcomer Peri Rouillard's sacrifice fly pushed Turner home for a 3-0 advantage.

Trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth, Stout reached on a throwing error. Madison Rogers entered the game as a pinch runner and promptly swiped second base. After Greene walked, the two moved up on a wild pitch. With two down, Rogers crossed home plate on another wild pitch. Rouillard rocketed a 1-1 offering down the right field line, scoring Greene for a 5-4 advantage. Lydia Johnson followed her steal with a rocket into center field for a two-run cushion.

For the game, Johnson and Rouillard had two hits apiece. Rouillard drove in two runs while Greene scored twice.

In the circle, Payton Baker struck out 11 in the complete-game victory.

Game two saw the visitors jump out to a 1-0 lead, but Poole's team quickly knotted the contest. Rouillard belted a pitch into the right center field gap for a triple. A groundout by Johnson allowed Rouillard to race home.

Rouillard led off the third with an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. Johnson bunted and the visitors committed an error. On the play, Johnson hustled to third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Mallory Shaver for a 3-1 margin.

The Flying Fleet had the bases loaded with nobody out in the fourth inning, but Lakyn Phillips got out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts and a pop-up.

Greene led off the fourth with an infield hit and moved to second on a wild pitch. After a groundout put her on third, Rouillard blasted a single up the middle for a 4-1 advantage. USCA extended the margin in the fifth. Shaver doubled to the gap in left center field and scored two plays later when Autumn Fisher recorded a single up the middle. Fisher raced around to score when Mollie Rollings reached on an error for a 6-1 lead.

Erskine plated two runs in the sixth to make it 6-3. Poole's squad got the two runs back in the bottom of the stanza. Turner led off the inning with a single and scored when Rouillard laced a triple to the gap in right field. Rouillard scored when Johnson laid down a bunt towards third base for a single.

For the game, Rouillard led the way with four hits, including two triples. She drove in two and scored three times. Fisher, Johnson and Shaver had two hits apiece. Johnson drove in two.

In the circle, Phillips got the start and struck out nine. Ally Fleming worked the sixth inning before Phillips came back in to close out the game in the seventh.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they take on Carson-Newman at 10 a.m., and Young Harris at 12 p.m. Both games will be played at Lander. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
