AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost a 9-4 contest to Mars Hill Saturday afternoon in the second game of the three-game series.
The Pacers are now 1-1 on the season.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team jumped on top with a run in the second inning.
Hunter Thompson led off the stanza with a double down the left field line. Three batters later,
Donovan Glisson smacked a single through the right side of the infield, making it 1-0.
Tied at 1-1 in the fourth,
Tyler Casciato drew a one-out walk. Glisson singled to right field, pushing Casciato to third base. A sacrifice fly by
Doom Dennis gave the home team a 2-1 advantage.
The Lions broke through with six runs in the sixth inning for a 7-2 lead. Holder's squad scored a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Josh Sharp ripped a triple down the right field line and scored on a groundout by
Capers Molinaroli.
The visitors tacked on a pair of runs in the ninth inning for a 9-3 advantage, but Holder's team continued to battle.
Cannon Frost drew a four-pitch walk. With one down,
Capers Molinaroli singled. Thompson's base hit to right field allowed Frost to score while Molinaroli raced to third base.
For the game, Thompson led the way with three hits, including a double. Glisson and Sharp had two hits apiece. Sharp notched a triple.
On the mound,
Blayne Newman worked five innings and gave up four runs on five hits. He had eight strikeouts.
Luke Norman struck out a batter.
Damien Ashley worked 3.1 innings while
Jacob Bodkin posted an out in the ninth inning.
