ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The USCA women's basketball team lost an 89-58 contest at Flagler Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 3-10 on the season, including 0-3 in PBC play.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Sami Bardonaro's 11-point performance. She was perfect from the floor, draining four-of-four, including a two-for-two effort from downtown.
Kendall Parker added nine points while
Rhiannon Saller and
Paris Webster added eight points apiece. Saller snagged five boards, had three steals and a block while Webster dished out two assists.
Molly Burns netted seven points while
Serena Baker and
Jaya Nelson added five points apiece. Baker had four boards while Nelson had a pair of steals.
Riley Simmons totaled four points and five boards.
Gracie Huffard chipped in a point, an assist and a rebound.
Destiny Harman dished out a team-best three assists while
Morgan McDermott had one.
Parker started the game off with a lay-up just 21 seconds in. Almost a minute later, her charity toss gave the visitors a 3-2 edge. Down 12-6, Webster converted a lay-up to make it a four-point game. Harman connected with Nelson for a three-ball to make it 15-11 with 1:57 to play in the quarter, but Flagler would maintain a 23-14 edge going into the second period.
USCA rattled off five straight points to start the second stanza. Webster found Parker for a lay-up before Simmons' pass led to a Bardonaro three-point bucket at the 8:41 mark. Moments later, a 9-0 spurt by the Saints put the score at 36-21. Saller netted the next four points, pulling the team within 11 at 36-25 with 3:22 to go. The Pacers cut it to 10 when Huffard hit a free throw with 32 ticks on the clock, but Flagler held a 41-29 lead at the break.
Flagler outscored the visitors 31-13 in the third quarter, but Miller's team played virtually even with the home squad over the final 10 minutes of action. USCA garnered a 7-2 spurt over a span of 1:38. Parker hit a lay-up before Bardonaro drained another shot from behind the arc. Burns canned two charity tosses to complete the run. Burns had the final three points of the game from the charity stripe with 55 seconds to play.
For the game, Miller's squad hit 17-of-48 from the floor. The team netted three shots from distance. USCA canned 21-of-28 from the charity stripe. The Pacers pulled down 28 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass. The team distributed eight assists and had 17 points off turnovers. Twenty-four points came in the paint.
