AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA men's soccer team used three second half goals to race past the Shaw Bears Saturday afternoon in the home opener.
The Pacers are now 3-1-2 on the season after the shutout victory.
USCA went on the attack early as
Alonso Fernandez blasted a shot, but it sailed high.
Damian Rogers' attempt at the 5:08 mark also missed high. The Pacers recorded the first shot on goal when
Jose Rabadan blasted an attempt in the 11
th minute of play, but it was thwarted by the keeper.
Head coach
Nick Sakiewicz's team continued pushing forward as
Sergio Aspas and Rogers each had attempts over the next five minutes, but neither could find the back of the net.
Rabadan accounted for three shots on goal in a six-minute span, but the keeper was up for the challenge.
Felipe Mattos stopped the lone shot on goal by the Bears in the opening frame.
Sakiewicz's squad stayed in the offensive third of the pitch and it paid off in the 56
th minute of play. Fernandez took the corner kick and played the ball into the box where Aspas deflected it and
Finlay Dyer headed home the first goal of the match.
Ten minutes later, Aspas took a pass from
Lucas Gomes and rocketed home a shot for 2-0 advantage.
Sakiewicz's team tacked on the third goal of the contest at the 67:48 mark.
Rafael Kuwakino made a long pass and Rabadan took a pair of dribbles before belting a shot pass the keeper for the three-score lead.
The Pacers had multiple chances in the waning moments to add another score, but the team was unable to add to the total.
In goal, Mattos played 80 minutes and had a save.
Cason Donahue played the rest of the contest, helping complete the shutout.
