DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost a 6-4 decision to Flagler Friday afternoon at the PBC Tournament.
The Pacers are now 28-21 on the season.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
Jena Dewalt led off the game with a walk and moved to second on
Lydia Johnson's well-played sacrifice bunt.
Austyn Dixon roped a single to center field, knocking in Dewalt.
The Saints knotted the score in the bottom of the inning. Flagler held a 4-1 lead entering the sixth inning and Dewalt cut the deficit to two with a solo blast to right field.
Down 6-2 entering the seventh inning,
Abigail Wyatt drew a lead-off walk.
Kate Newberry entered as a pinch hitter and promptly rocketed a shot over the left field wall, trimming the margin to 6-4.
With one down,
Anna Turner registered a single up the middle.
Ella Stone re-entered the contest and hustled to second when
Cameron Greene posted a single through the left side of the defense. A fielder's choice put runners on the corner, but a groundout ended the contest.
For the game, five different Pacers picked up a hit. Newberry and Dewalt each blasted home runs. Dewalt crossed home twice.
In the circle,
Lakyn Phillips got the start and worked 3.1 innings. She had three strikeouts.
Payton Baker entered in relief and accounted for three strikeouts.
