Dixon Drives In Three At Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team hit a pair of home runs but it was not enough in the 14-6 loss at Flagler College Sunday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 25-18 on the season, including 10-11 in PBC play.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Lydia Johnson roped a base hit to left field and moved to second on Skylar Morley's base knock back to the pitcher. On the ensuing pitch, Austyn Dixon hit a high fly ball that carried just over the right center field wall for a 3-0 advantage.

The Saints struck for six runs in the bottom of the first, but USC Aiken cut into the deficit in the top of the second.

Ella Stone rocketed a 3-2 pitch to left center field. With one down, she stole second before taking third on a wild pitch. Stone scored when Johnson reached on a fielding error by the pitcher, making it 6-4.

Down 8-4 in the top of the third inning, Jena Dewalt blasted a solo homer over the center field wall with two down, cutting the margin to three at 8-5.

Flagler plated three runs in the bottom of the third for an 11-5 edge. Poole's team continued to battle, scoring a run in the top of the sixth. Dewalt started the frame with a walk and hustled to second on a Chloe Phillips base hit through the left side of the defense. Two batters later, Cameron Greene singled to left field, loading the bases. Johnson reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Dewalt to score, but that was as close as the team could get.

The Saints scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 14-6 final.

For the game, Morley led the way with a pair of hits while also scoring a run. Dixon drove in a game-high three runs while Dewalt scored a game-high twice.

In the circle, Payton Baker got the start. Lakyn Phillips had a pair of strikeouts in relief.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Benedict for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
