AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost a 12-9 contest to Emory & Henry Tuesday evening.
The Pacers are now 7-11 on the season.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning, but the team responded with four runs.
Cade Bouknight singled and moved to second on a base knock by
Bradley White II. A
Brock Myers single loaded the bags for
Josh Sharp, who promptly roped a double down the right field line, driving in two.
With the bases loaded after a walk to
Capers Molinaroli,
Kaden Usry ripped a single to center field, knocking in Myers and Sharp for a 4-3 advantage.
The Wasps countered with three runs in the fifth inning for a 6-4 lead. Holder's squad rebounded with a four-run fifth stanza. With
Cannon Frost on third base,
Capers Molinaroli reached on an error, allowing USC Aiken to pull within one at 6-5. With two on,
Joseph Mozingo unleashed a towering three-run homer for an 8-6 lead.
E&H scored five runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to go up by four runs.
Luke Parker drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh and moved to second on a wild pitch, but he was left stranded.
USC Aiken threatened in the bottom of the ninth.
Kaden Usry was hit by a pitch and scored on Mozingo's double to right center field.
For the game, Mozingo and Sharp had three hits apiece. Mozingo led the way with four RBI. He crushed a home run and added a double. Sharp had three hits and two RBI while Usry had two RBI.
On the mound,
Lucas Highberger took the loss.
Evan Condon got the start and had a strikeout. Highberger and
Blayne Newman each had a strikeout while
Cole Evilsizor recorded two strikeouts.
Jacob Butler had three strikeouts in the contest.
