AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team completed the sweep of USC Beaufort on Monday by claiming a 2-1 victory in the series finale.
The Pacers are now 17-7 overall and 3-3 in PBC play.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the second and the squad promptly knotted the game. With two down,
Mallory Shaver had the count at 2-1. On the ensuing pitch, she blasted the offering over the left field wall for her 21
st career home run, tying her for third place on the USC Aiken career list.
The game remained tied until the first pitch of the fourth inning as
Austyn Dixon rocketed the pitch over the left center field wall for a 2-1 edge.
Poole replaced
Lakyn Phillips with
Payton Baker in the circle for the final three innings. Baker promptly kept the Sand Sharks off the board for the one-run victory.
Dixon led the way for the Pacers with two hits – a home run and a triple. Shaver registered a round-tripper while Johnson had a hit.
Between
Lakyn Phillips and Baker, the two gave up one run on seven hits. Phillips accounted for six strikeouts while getting the win while Baker had three strikeouts. She was credited with the save.
