AIKEN, S.C. - The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of Converse Saturday by scores of 3-1 and 8-0.
The Pacers are now 9-3 on the season.
In game one, Converse took a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the third inning. However, head coach
Jaclin Poole's team battled back quickly.
In the bottom of the fourth frame,
Skylar Morley got things going with a one-out single to right field. She used her speed and promptly swiped second base. After an error allowed
Cameron Greene to reach base,
Chloe Phillips ripped a double to center field, driving in Morley and Greene for a 2-1 edge.
Chloe Phillips advanced to third on a groundout. As
Taylor Butts stole second,
Chloe Phillips scored on an error, giving the home team a 3-1 advantage.
Payton Baker was excellent throughout the game and did not let the visitors knot the contest. CU threatened in the seventh, but Baker recorded a swinging strikeout to end the game. For the contest, Baker struck out five.
For the game,
Chloe Phillips had two RBI while
Austyn Dixon,
Mallory Shaver, Morley, and
Kate Newberry all had hits. Shaver registered a triple while
Chloe Phillips had a double.

Payton Baker threw a complete game and finished with eight punchouts.
In game two, Poole's team broke open the game in the third frame. Morley started it off with a walk.
Jena Dewalt was hit by a pitch. The two swiped a base to be on second and third. A wild pitch allowed Morley to race home for a 1-0 margin.
Lydia Johnson brought Dewalt home with a thunderous round-tripper to left field.
Newberry doubled to center field in the fourth. With two down, Dewalt walked as did Johnson. Dixon drove in two with a double to center field.
Mallory Shaver blasted an opposite field home run to make it 8-0.
For the game, Johnson, Newberry, and Shaver had two hits apiece. Shaver drove in three while Dixon and Johnson each plated two. Johnson and Dewalt each scored twice. Johnson and Shaver each hit round-trippers.
In the circle,
Lakyn Phillips tossed the complete-game shutout. She struck out six while only giving up five hits.
With her stolen base in the nightcap,Dewalt moved into 10th place for career steals in USC Aiken's history.
