Pacers Earn Series Victory Over Yellow Jackets

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team took the series victory over American International with a 14-2 victory Sunday.

The Pacers are now 3-7 on the season.

Head coach Michael Holder's team broke open the game in the first inning. Josh Sharp led off the at bat with a single but was erased on a fielder's choice. Brock Myers quickly swiped second base. After a walk to Capers Molinaroli, Kaden Usry singled in Myers. Doom Dennis' base knock allowed Molinaroli to score. A single up the middle by Brandon Osypczuk plated Usry for a 3-0 advantage. 

The Pacers continued to pile it on with three more runs in the second frame. Bradley White II led off the inning with a double down the right field line and moved to third on a fly ball by Sharp. A walk to Myers loaded the bags and Dalton Graves singled in a run. Molinaroli followed it up with a base knock, scoring Myers. Two batters later, Dennis recorded an RBI single to left field for the six-run margin. 

A Graves' double in the third pushed Sharp across home plate to make it 7-0. In the fourth, Usry was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a Dennis single through the left side. Osypczuk reached on a fielder's choice. An error on the play allowed Usry and Dennis to score. Moments later, Osypczuk came home on a throwing error, extending the score to 10-0. A wild pitch in the fifth allowed Usry and Molinaroli to score.

In the sixth, a bases clearing double from Usry drove in Myers, Graves and Cannon Frost pushed the margin to 14-0. 

The visitors plated a run in the seventh and eighth innings.

For the game, Dennis led the way with two hits. He had two RBI and scored once. Graves, Molinaroli, Sharp, Usry and White II had two hits apiece. Usry drove in four while Graves, Molinaroli and Usry crossed home twice each. Myers scored three times in the win.

On the mound, Kevin Cox got the starting nod and worked six strong innings. He struck out 10 batters without allowing a walk. Cox scattered three hits and did not allow a run. Cole Evilsizor came in to pitch in the seventh and eighth innings. He struck out four while giving up two runs, one of which was unearned. Lucas Highberger fanned two batters in the ninth inning before Louie Smith replaced him. He calmly forced a fly ball to center field for the final out.  

The Pacers return to action Friday when they host No. 1 Tampa for a three-game series starting at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
