AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team picked up a pair of victories Saturday over North Greenville.
Game scores were 9-1 and 6-0.
The Pacers are now 4-2 on the young season.
In the first game,
Jena Dewalt drew a walk and moved to second on a bunt single by
Lydia Johnson. The duo each stole a base and
Austyn Dixon walked to load the bags. With two down,
Tara McGee blasted a double to center field for a 3-0 lead.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team increased the advantage to 5-0 in the second stanza. Dewalt doubled and raced home on Johnson's double to the gap in right center field. Dixon's base knock plated Johnson for the five-run margin.
Up 5-0 in the fourth,
Taylor Butts rocketed a triple to center field.
Jena Dewalt walked and swiped second base to put two runners in scoring position. Johnson walked to load the bases and Dixon drove one in on a groundout.
Mallory Shaver blasted a single to center field, driving in Dewalt.
USC Aiken ended the game in the fifth stanza. Leading 7-1,
Chloe Phillips singled to center field.
Madison Rogers came in as a pinch runner and moved to second on a wild pitch. A single by Butts pushed Rogers to third base. A wild pitch allowed her to come home. Two batters later, Dewalt swiped second, Butts stole third and raced home on a throwing error for the 9-1 victory.
For the game, Butts, Johnson and Shaver had two hits apiece. McGee led the way with three RBI while Dixon added two RBI. Butts, Dewalt and Johnson all scored twice.

Payton Baker tossed a complete game to pick up the win. She struck out six while giving up just one earned run on five hits while walking just two.
In game two, Poole's team took a quick 1-0 lead when Dewalt crushed a pitch for a lead-off solo round-tripper in the team's first at bat.
USC Aiken added to the slim lead in the fourth. Dixon led off the frame with a walk.
Grace Ann Thompkins came in as a pinch runner and moved to second on
Skylar Morley's base hit to center field. She scored on an error by the visitors for the two-run edge.
In the fifth, Dewalt singled and swiped second base. Johnson doubled her home to make it 3-0. Dixon walked and promptly swiped second to put two runners in scoring position. Moments later, Shaver rocketed a double to the gap in left center field allowing Johnson and Dixon to cross home.
For the game, Dewalt, Johnson and Shaver had two hits apiece. Shaver led the way with three RBI while Dewalt crossed home twice.

Lakyn Phillips went the distance in the complete-game shutout. She struck out four while giving up just seven hits in the masterpiece.
