AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's basketball team lost a 75-63 decision to Livingstone Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 3-6 on the season.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Kendall Parker's team-high 16 points.
Destiny Harman added 12 points while
Riley Simmons and
Serena Baker had nine points apiece.
Rhiannon Saller totaled eight points, nine boards and four blocks.
Gracie Huffard and
Paris Webster each registered four points.
USCA took a 5-4 lead on a three-ball from
Kendall Parker off a pass from
Riley Simmons at the 6:14 mark. The back-and-forth affair saw the teams play to a 10-10 tie. Then,
Paris Webster found
Destiny Harman for a three-point bucket with 1:06 to play. A jumper by
Serena Baker pushed the margin to five and Miller's team held a 15-13 edge heading into the second quarter.
The Blue Bears went on an 18-4 run before Baker hit a free throw, slicing the deficit to 31-20. The visitors extended the advantage to 15, but Parker hit a free throw and Simmons canned two more for a 35-23 game at halftime.
The Pacers cut the deficit to five, 39-34, when Simmons drained a jumper in the lane. Miller's team continued to be aggressive, and it paid off. Trailing 43-35, Harman took a pass from Parker and buried a three-point shot. Moments later, Baker hit a free throw to cut the margin to four, 43-39. However, Livingstone maintained a 49-40 edge heading into the fourth quarter.
The high-scoring final quarter saw USCA slice the deficit to seven, 49-42, on Parker's jumper to get things going. However, the Blue Bears answered every shot with a bucket of their own down the stretch.
For the game, USCA hit 22-of-58 from the floor (37.9 percent), including seven-of-24 (29.2 percent) from downtown. Miller's team scored 24 points in the paint and tallied 17 points off the bench.
