WILSON, N.C. – The USCA women's basketball team registered a 52-45 victory at Barton Tuesday evening.
The Pacers are now 3-4 on the season
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by a 16-point, five-rebound effort from
Paris Webster.
Rhiannon Saller tallied 12 points and seven rebounds while
Serena Baker accounted for 10 points, eight rebounds, two steals and a block.
Sami Bardonaro added five points while
Destiny Harman notched three points, eight boards and six assists.
Kendall Parker and
Riley Simmons added three points apiece. Simmons also corralled eight boards in the victory.
In the first frame, Saller's lay-up gave the Pacers a 3-2 edge. Webster found Saller for another bucket at the 3:17 mark, allowing USCA to take a 5-4 lead. Webster canned a three-ball for a four-point margin heading into the second frame.
Miller's squad extended the margin to five in the second quarter on Parker's three-point bucket. Barton managed to take a 17-15 lead before Harman found Simmons for an inside shot at the 3:32 mark. The back-and-forth affair saw Webster snag a rebound and convert a lay-up for a 19-18 advantage at the 2:36 mark. Webster's jumper with 44 seconds to play before the break sent the Pacers into halftime with a three-point margin, 24-21.
Tied at 31-31 with 3:13 to go in the third quarter, Harman's pass to Saller gave the Pacers a two-point lead. Up by two, 35-33, Saller drilled both charity tosses with no time on the clock for a 37-33 advantage.
Saller's bucket at the 6:11 mark extended the score to 42-35. The Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to three, 46-43, with 1:07 to play but Saller's pass to Baker pushed the score to 48-43. Leading 48-45, Saller was fouled and promptly hit two free throws with 11 seconds remaining. Barton missed a three-point shot and Webster was fouled. She hit both charity tosses with seven seconds to play for the final tally.
For the game, USCA hit 18-of-63 from the floor. The squad canned five three-point baskets and was outstanding from the charity stripe, netting 11-of-12. The team held a 51-37 edge on the glass. Miller's team scored 20 points in the paint and scored 14 second-chance points.
