DUE WEST, S.C. – The USCA women's basketball team recorded a 79-67 victory at Erskine Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-4 on the season.
Leading 6-5 in the early going,
Riley Simmons buried a three-point shot off a pass from
Rhiannon Saller at the 6:27 mark. The teams traded points until the Flying Fleet took a 15-13 edge with 2:20 to play. USCA embarked on a 7-0 spurt to end the first quarter. Starting with a driving lay-up from
Kendall Parker to knot the score at 15-15, Parker took a pass from

Morgan McDermott off a pass from Harman pushed the score to 29-19 with 6:39 to play in the half. USCA led 31-22 before Erskine netted seven straight points. A basket from Saller with an assist from
Sami Bardonaro gave the Pacers a 33-29 lead but a late shot from downtown allowed the home squad to take a two-point margin, 38-36, into the break.
Down 43-39, head coach
Mark Miller's team went on a 7-0 spurt. Bardonaro drained a three-ball before Saller and Baker hit lay-ups for a three-point advantage. Up 46-45, Baker found Bardonaro for another shot from distance, giving the Pacers a four-point lead with 5:26 to play in the third quarter. Parker's three-point shot extended the score to 52-45 with 4:04 to go. The Pacers maintained a strong lead, taking a 58-53 advantage into the fourth frame.
Just 2:43 into the final stanza, Simmons found the bottom of the net off a pass from Harman to go up 65-55. A Simmons lay-up with 3:39 to play pushed the margin to 72-57 and the team never looked back in the solid victory.
