McCoy’s Career Day Guides Pacers Past Bobcats

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team rattled off a 93-86 victory at Georgia College & State Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 10-2 on the season and 1-1 in league play.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Jalen McCoy's career-high 35-point performance on 13-of-16 shooting from the floor. He was eight-for-eight from the free throw line and snagged eight rebounds. Tehree Horn added 22 points while Tyler Jonson and Jameel Rideout added 17 and 10 points, respectively.

In the early going, Horn hit a jumper to take a 6-5 lead. Johnson scored the next five points before Rideout found McCoy for a three-ball at the 15:02 mark for a 14-5 edge. With 13:24 to go, Johnson's jumper extended the margin to nine, 19-10. He buried a three-ball before Rhyjon Blackwell hit a charity toss for a 23-10 advantage at the 10:29 mark.

Leading 34-33, Rideout hit a free throw. McCoy converted a lay-up. He added two free throws at the 1:21 mark for a six-point advantage. A twisting lay-up by Rideout increased the lead to eight, 41-33 en route to a 45-37 advantage at the break.  

Vanderslice's team held a 65-64 lead before McCoy hit Horn for a jumper at the 10:40 mark. Demitrios Dixon's free throws pushed the advantage to five. Up by three, Horn buried a shot from deep off a pass from Dixon. Blackwell followed it up with a three-point shot, extending the advantage to nine, 75-66.

The Bobcats pulled within six at the 1:46 mark but McCoy netted four straight points and USC Aiken was able to notch the victory.  

For the game, Vanderslice's team hit 33-of-55 (60.0 percent) from the floor, including 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from distance. The squad held a 28-27 lead on the boards. The squad tallied 34 points in the paint and recorded 16 points off turnovers.
