GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's soccer team lost a 2-1 decision at Lander Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-5-1 overall and 1-3 in league action.
Jose Rabadan's attempt in the eighth minute of action was blocked as was
Ejemai Ohiwerei's shot a minute later.
In the 16
th minute,
Wynston Johnson's shot was saved.
Fabian Avila ripped an attempt toward the goal at the 16:47 mark but it was turned away.
Lander broke through for a 1-0 lead at the 23:45 mark and the score remained the same heading into intermission.
Early in the second half head coach
Ike Ofoje's team managed to keep it at a one-goal contest as
Cason Donahue notched a pair of saves.
Johnson belted another shot in the 66
th minute but the keeper was able to prevent it from finding the back of the net. In the 72
nd minute, Lander was able to make it 2-0. However, USC Aiken continued to push forward.
In the 84
th minute the pressure paid off. The Pacers pulled within one when Rabadan converted a penalty kick to make it 2-1. It was as close as the team would get as USC Aiken could not register another shot in the match.
For the contest, Ofoje's team tallied seven shots, including four on goal. The team had one corner kick.
Donahue played the second half between the pipes and stopped two shots. Rabadan had three shots in the match, including one on goal. Both of Johnson's attempts were on goal. Avila had a shot on goal while Ohiwerei tallied a shot in the loss.
