BELMONT, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team suffered a 20-3 loss to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders on Tuesday evening at Abbey Yard.
The Pacers are now 25-13 on the year and remain 17-4 in the conference.
Head coach
Michael Holder found his team down 15-0 before the Pacers put their first runs of the game on the board.
In the sixth inning, USC Aiken was facing two outs with
Justin Byrd on first who reached on a walk. A two-run home run to left center by
Nick Tripp added two to the board for the Pacers.
Still in the sixth,
Kaden Blankenship singled to right and then advanced to second on a wild pitch with
Jose Hernandez at the plate. Another wild pitch moved Blankenship to third. Hernandez walked putting runners on the corners. A single up the middle for
Marcus Mastellone plated Blankenship.
The three runs in the sixth were the only runs scored in the game for Holder's teams.
For the game, Tripp went two-for-three with the home run and a double scoring one run and collecting two RBI.
Tai Gilbert,
Joseph Mozingo, Blankenship and Mastellone each had a hit.
On the mound,
Luke Parker got the start and pitched two innings giving up six runs on seven hits while striking out one. In relief,
Evan Condon worked two frames giving up four runs on three hits and struck out one.
Adam Krissinger saw an inning of work giving up five runs on three hits.
Aaron Flink hurled two innings allowing five runs on three hits.
Bryce Bulls closed out the game with an inning pitched giving up no runs or hits.
