Pacers Fall To Coker 9-3

AIKEN, S.C. – The No. 18 University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost to the Coker Cobras Wednesday evening 9-3
 
The Pacers are now 19-8 on the season.
 
After finding themselves down 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, head coach Michael Holder's team saw their first hit of the evening come by way of a single by Joseph Mozingo with one out. Two consecutive flyouts to right field ended the inning for the Pacers.
 
The first runs for USC Aiken came in the bottom of the sixth. Still trailing 5-0, Mozingo singled to left field and was advanced to third on a double by Tai Gilbert to left center. Two batter later, James Eckert singled up the middle scoring both Mozingo and Gilbert. Justin Byrd was walked on four straight pitches pushing Eckert to second base. Jackson Hannon stepped up to the plate representing the tying run, but a hard hit line out to left field ended the inning and the Pacers' treat.
 
In the top of the seventh, the Cobras tacked on three more runs extending their lead to 8-2.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, Luke Parker led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Kaden Blankenship then singled to right field and Parker advanced to third. A passed ball moved Blankenship to second. Nick Tripp then singled to short scoring Parker bringing the score to 8-3. After a pitching change by the Cobras, and with two on and no outs, Mozingo was walked to load the bases. A line out and two swinging strikeouts ended the inning.
 
Coker added one more run at the beginning of the eighth inning, which would account for the final run of the contest.
 
For the game, Mozingo was three-for-four with a run. Paker hit two-for-four with a double and a run. Gilbert also hit a double and scored a run. Tripp accounted for the Pacers' lone stolen base.
 
On the mound, Evan Condon got the start and pitched two innings giving up four runs on three hits with one strikeout. In relief, AJ Deibel pitched three innings giving up one run on two hits. Jacob Bodkin, Derek Espinoza, Aaron Flink and Cole Evilsizor combined for four innings giving up four runs on five hits with one strikeout.
 
The team returns to action on Friday at Roberto Hernandez Stadium for the first of a three-game conference series against Young Harris. First pitch is at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
