USC Aiken Falls To North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost two games at North Greenville Wednesday afternoon by scores of 7-1 and 5-0.

In game one, NGU led 5-0 heading into the top of the sixth when head coach Jaclin Poole's team broke through.

Skylar Morley led off the inning with a base knock to left field on a 1-2 count. After a groundout, she hustled to third on a wild pitch. After working the count full, Shi Cain registered a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Morley to hustle home to make it 5-1.

The Crusaders plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-1 margin. However, Poole's team continued to battle at the plate in the top of the seventh inning. Kadence Adams led off the inning with a base hit to left field. After scampering to second on a wild pitch, Holly Daum drew a walk to put runners on first and second. The team was unable to push across any more runs in the contest.

For the game, Morley led the team with a pair of hits in three at bats. She also scored the team's lone run. Adams, Cain, Jessica Stanley and Grace Ann Thompkins all had hits. Cain picked up a double and drove in a run.

In the circle, Payton Baker went the distance. She struck out three in the loss.

In game two, the Crusaders plated a run in the bottom of the first. With one down in the third, Caroline Ballentine singled up the middle but back-to-back outs ended the stanza.

Poole's team tried to respond in the fourth. Lauren Wexler led off the frame with an infield single before moving to second on a groundout. Emily Ayers singled, pushing Wexler to third. Cain drew a full-count walk to load the bases. However, USC Aiken was unable to plate a run in the inning.

Caroline Ballentine led off the fifth with a walk and hustled to second when Taylor Butts laid down a sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Wexler walked but a deep fly ball ended the threat.

Down 5-0 in the seventh, Savannah Ballentine drew a lead-off walk. Caroline Ballentine poked a single through the left side of the infield to put two on with nobody out but the team was unable to plate a run.
