Hannon Delivers Walk-Off Victory Against Carson-Newman

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken used a walk-off hit from Jackson Hannon to pick up the 5-4 win over Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 2-0 on the season while the Eagles fall to 1-2.

Marcus Mastellone and Luke Parker shared team-high honors with two hits apiece. Parker trotted across home plate twice. Justin Byrd, Hannon, James Eckert and Nick Tripp all had hits.

Byrd, Hannon, Mastellone, Parker and Tripp each drove in one while Byrd, Eckert and Tripp each scored once.

USC Aiken jumped on top with a pair of runs in the second. Tripp doubled in Parker, who led off the frame with a single to left field. Three batters later, Mastellone belted a double to the gap in left center field for a 2-0 edge.

Leading 2-1 in the bottom of the third, Byrd blasted his first career round-tripper over the left field fence. Two batters later, Parker unloaded on a pitch for a 4-1 advantage.

The Eagles plated two runs in the sixth and one more in the ninth, knotting the score at 4-4.

Holder's team was up for the challenge in the team's last at bat. With one away, Eckert left the bat on his shoulder and drew a five-pitch walk. With two away, he swiped second. Facing a 2-2 pitch, Hannon ripped the pitch to right center field, earning the walk-off victory for the home team.

On the mound, Austin Sandifer got the victory. He worked three frames and gave up just one run on four hits without walking anyone. Louie Smith, Aaron Flink and AJ Deibel also saw time on the mound in the victory. The trio combined for four strikeouts in the win.

The teams return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
