AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken Department of Athletics continues to make an impact outside the field of competition, which is highlighted on Division II Day.

When games aren't being played, when student-athletes aren't practicing and when they are done with their schoolwork, the nearly 200 student-athletes continue to find ways to reach out to the community that gives so much support to them.

Not just the week in which Division II Day is celebrated, but throughout the year, the 10 athletic teams, in addition to the Spirit Squad, volunteer with different organizations during the academic year.

Each team has its own way of making an impact and outside of team functions, student-athletes also get involved with volunteering for things that are important to them. Some examples of how USC Aiken Athletics is prominent in the community include talking to at-risk youth, assisting at Special Olympics, involving the community with teaching sport skills, reading to students at various schools, helping the Aiken community with trash pick-up days and inviting student-athletes onto campus to spend time with them while eating a meal and interacting with them.
