WINGATE, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team lost both games of a doubleheader at Wingate Sunday afternoon by scores of 8-0 and 9-0.
The Pacers are now 3-11 on the season.
In the first game,
Emily Ayers led the way at the plate with a pair of hits while
Shi Cain tallied one base knock.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the fourth, head coach
Jaclin Poole's team got things going when Ayers ripped a one-out single up the middle on an 0-2 pitch. Cain's base hit put runners on first and second. However, back-to-back outs ended the stanza.
Down 4-0 in the sixth, Ayers rocketed a two-out single to left center field but a groundout completed the inning.
Lakyn Phillips struck out a pair of batters while throwing the complete game.
In the nightcap, Cain powered out a hit.
Jena Dewalt,
Holly Daum and
Mallory Shaver each registered a base knock in the contest.
USC Aiken trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning of game two. With two away, Cain belted the first pitch she saw up the middle. However, a strikeout ended the frame.
The Pacers went on the offensive attack to start the fifth when Shaver registered a lead-off single.
Skylar Morley's sacrifice bunt pushed
Grace Ann Thompkins to second as Thompkins had entered the game as a pinch runner.
Holly Daum singled to center field but back-to-back strikeouts ended the stanza.
Payton Baker struck out two in the complete-game effort.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Young Harris in a doubleheader as part of a three-game series. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
