USC Aiken Defeats Young Harris, 66-57

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team posted a 66-57 victory over Young Harris Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 19-7 overall, including 12-4 in league play.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Karon Boyd's team-high 14 points. He added six boards and a block in the win.

Jalen McCoy tallied 13 points and seven rebounds while Tyler Johnson chipped in 11 points to go along with six boards. Tehree Horn notched 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals while Jameel Rideout added nine points. Samba Ndiaye snagged seven rebounds.

Leading 12-10, Horn canned a pair of free throws. A jumper by Johnson extended the advantage to six, 16-10. Moments later, a three-ball from Jammy Pierre-Louis made it 19-12.

YHC cut the margin to one, 23-22, before Boyd hit a jumper. Up by one, 26-25, Horn snagged a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a lay-up. Rideout's old-fashioned three-point play gave the home team a 32-26 lead at the break.

The Mountain Lions trimmed the deficit to three but Horn and McCoy hit back-to-back shots. Another lay-up from Horn and a put-back from Chedlet Delva extended the margin to 11, 42-31. McCoy's basket put the Pacers up 13 with 13:25 to play.

It was not until the final two minutes that the visitors cut the deficit to single digits – and that occurred on a three-point bucket with 2:16 to play for the final tally.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 26-of-62 from the floor (41.9 percent). The team canned six three-point shots and made eight-of-10 from the charity stripe. The Pacers pulled down 10 rebounds, resulting in 15 second-chance points. USC Aiken had 34 of its points in the paint.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they play at Columbus State at 7:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
