JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team lost an 87-47 decision at Carson-Newman Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-1 on the season.
Head coach
Mark Miller's team was led by
Kelsie Woodard's 10 points and seven rebounds in 19 minutes of work.
Annalise Malone added nine points and three boards.
Marta Rivera contributed eight points and three rebounds.
Hailey Unger added seven points while
Sami Bardonaro chipped in six points to go along with four assists.
Serena Baker and
Mary Cartee had three points apiece while
Jentri Worley had a point.
Paris Webster tallied three rebounds and three assists while
Rhiannon Saller had three boards and two assists.
Trailing 8-0 in the early going, Jaya Nelon found
Marta Rivera for a three-ball. Unger took a pass from Saller and netted a basket to pull the visitors within three at the 4:53 mark. C-N held a 21-11 lead heading into the second quarter.
The home team extended the margin to 18 late in the second stanza but Rivera found Woodard for a basket with 39 seconds to go to make it a 36-20 contest at halftime.
The Eagles led 45-22 but Bardonaro found Malone for an inside shot. Woodard's three-point basket and a shot from downtown by Bardonaro trimmed the deficit to 15, 45-30, with 6:26 to play in the third quarter but a 21-7 run to end the stanza by C-N made it 66-37.
For the game, USC Aiken 18-of-53 from the floor (34.0 percent), including nine-of-22 from downtown (40.9 percent).
The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they play at Emmanuel at 5:30 p.m.
