Three Net Double Figures At Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team placed three student-athletes in double figures but it was not enough in the 72-67 loss at Young Harris Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 10-8 on the season, including 4-4 in league play.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Jentri Worley's team-high 21 points on six-of-10 shooting from the floor. She also buried nine-of-10 from the charity stripe. Worley distributed five assists and snagged five rebounds.

Emily Trushel added 19 points on a seven-of-11 effort from the floor and three-of-four mark from the charity stripe. She pulled down a team-best seven rebounds. Annalise Malone tallied 12 points.

Delaney Trushel and Breanna Gustave chipped in six points and five points, respectively. Delaney Trushel totaled six rebounds and four assists.  

Tied at 12-12 with under three minutes to play in the first quarter, Worley netted a lay-up. With 23 ticks on the clock, Kelsie Woodard gave the visitors a 16-14 lead heading into the second frame.

Emily Trushel took a pass from Worley 83 seconds into the second period and nailed a shot from distance. Delaney Trushel found Malone for a lay-up. Leading 21-15, Worley hit Emily Trushel for an inside shot, giving the USC Aiken its largest of the game at 23-15. Trailing 32-30 late in the half, Marta Rivera sent a pass to Malone for a bucket, making it 32-30 at the break.

Emily Trushel netted the first four points of the third quarter for a two-point margin. Delaney Trushel's jumper tied it at 36-36. Down by four, Emily Trushel found Worley for a lay-up with 3:33 to play in the stanza but the Mountain Lions managed to take a 49-42 lead into the fourth quarter.

Gustave and Emily Trushel combined for the first five points of the final period, cutting the deficit to two, 49-47. Down 60-55, Malone hit a twisting basket in the lane. Emily Trushel found the bottom of the net on a charity tosses with 3:13 to play but that was as close as the Pacers could get the rest of the way. USC Aiken made it a three-point game with 32 ticks remaining but YHC managed to hit charity tosses down the stretch.

For the game, Miller's team made 25-of-55 from the floor (45.5 percent). The squad connected on 14-of-16 from the free throw line (87.5 percent). The team pulled down 33 rebounds compared to 31 by the home squad. USC Aiken held a 40-28 edge in the paint.
