ALBANY, Ga. – Rookie
Megan Gettys scored three goals as the University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team posted a 5-0 victory at Albany State Wednesday evening.
The Pacers improve to 3-2-3 overall and 1-2-2 in PBC action. The Golden Rams fall to 0-7 on the year and 0-4 against conference competition.
Gettys gave head coach
Tina Murphy's team a 1-0 lead just 5:21 into the match off a pass from
Avery List.
Moments after the goal,
Shiloh Pirro nearly had a pair of shots find the back of the net, but both were turned away by the keeper. List registered a shot on frame in the 13
th minute as Gettys had another shot on goal in the 15
th minute of action.
After shots on goal from
Jackie Montes and
Jasiah Pack, Gettys connected on her shot for a 2-0 advantage off a pass from
Jordan Huynh-Luetkemeyer.
The score remained 2-0 for the rest of the half. Just 14 seconds into the second period,
Sonya Villarreal blasted a shot past the keeper for a three-goal lead. It marked her first career goal.
Gettys connected for her career-high third goal of the match by converting a penalty kick in the 65
th minute of play off a pass from Montes.
Pirro added the fifth goal of the match at the 74:23 mark.
The three goals by Gettys marks the most in a match by a Pacer since Sarah Moore did so on Oct. 13, 2016 at Francis Marion.
For the match, USC Aiken netted five goals on 14 shots. The squad tallied seven corner kicks and did not allow any by the home team.
Gettys tallied four shots on goal as did Pirro. List and Villarreal had two shots on frame apiece while Montes and Pack had one each.
Kaydence Moore got the starting nod between the pipes and had one save.
Caitlin Thomason played the second half and did not see a shot as the dyad combined for the clean slate.
The Pacers return to action Wednesday, Oct. 5, when they host USC Beaufort at 3:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com. The team was originally slated to play at Georgia College & State on Saturday, Oct. 1, but the match has been moved to Oct. 19.
