Pacers Tie School Record In Doubleheader Sweep At Flagler

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team tied the school record with 21 hits in the 11-2 nightcap win at Flagler Saturday after picking up a 10-1 win in the opener.

The Pacers are now 28-18 on the season, including 10-10 in league play.

In game one, head coach Jaclin Poole's team broke the scoreless contest with a seven-run fourth inning. Brooke Moore reached on a miscue by the third baseman and hustled to second when Jena Dewalt bunted to third base for a single.

With one away, Ashlyn White pulled a bunt down the first base line to load the bags. Mallory Shaver's bloop single to center field scored Moore. Two batters later, Lauren Wexler singled to the shortstop, plating Dewalt. Brianna Dow followed her up with another base hit to the same location for a 2-0 edge, allowing White to cross home plate. Emily Ayers ripped a single to right center field, driving in Shaver and Wexler. Moore's double to the gap in left center drove in Dow and Ayers for a 7-0 advantage.

Poole's team got on the board again in the fifth with three more runs. Skylar Morley led off the frame with a single to left field. She swiped second on a strikeout before moving to third on Shaver's base hit to center field. Courtney Leisner came in as a pinch hitter and quickly swiped second base. Taylor Butts laid down a bunt single, driving in Morley. On the play, Butts hustled to second to put runners in scoring position. Wexler's sacrifice fly drove home Leisner before Dow's base knock scored Butts for the 10-0 lead.

Lakyn Phillips was outstanding in the circle. She did not allow a hit until the fifth inning as the Saints managed to score a run on three hits. However, the mercy rule was in play for the 10-1 win. Phillips struck out 10 and did not walk anyone.

At the plate, Dow, Morley, Shaver and White all had multi-hit games. Moore had the team's lone extra-base hit. Ayers, Dow and Moore each drove in two. All nine starters that came to the plate scored a run.

In the nightcap, Poole's team got on the board with a three-run first inning and never looked back. With the bases loaded, Morley ripped a double down the left field line, scoring Ayers, Moore and Dewalt.

Leading 3-1 in the second, Dow had a bases clearing double to right center field. On the play, Shaver, Butts and Wexler all crossed home plate. Dewalt's single in the fourth drove home Dow to make it 7-1.

Up 7-2 in the top of the seventh, Poole's team put the contest out of reach. Butts laid down a bunt that scored Morley. Wexler's base hit drove in Leisner, who was on as a pinch runner, and Butts. Dow's base hit allowed Wexler to cross home plate.

Payton Baker was outstanding in the circle. She worked a complete game and faced 29 batters. Baker gave up just one earned run and had a pair of strikeouts.

At the plate, Dow led the way with a four-hit performance. She drove in three and scored once. Wexler, Shaver and Butts all had three hits. Wexler drove in two and scored twice. Butts raced home twice. Ayers, Dewalt and Morley notched two hits apiece. Morley drove in three in the win.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow for the final game of the series starting at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
