YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team split a doubleheader at Young Harris Friday.
The squad lost the first game 13-4 before winning the series finale 4-2.
The Pacers are now 18-22 on the season, including 10-11 in league play.
Trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning of game one, interim head coach
Michael Holder's team cut the deficit to one. After
Carson Suess reached on a miscue by the shortstop,
Nick Tripp blasted a two-run round-tripper to make it 3-2.
The Mountain Lions plated seven runs in the bottom of the frame, pushing the score to 10-2.
USC Aiken plated a pair of runs in the fifth, pulling the team within six at 10-4. After a
Sean McQuillan single,
Jeff Cyr tallied a base knock. Two batters later, Tripp singled home McQuillan. Moments later, a
Jackson Hannon single plated Cyr.
YHC managed to add three more runs for the 13-4 victory. For the game, Tripp had two hits and three RBI. Hannon tallied two hits and one RBI.
Luke Parker came in from the bullpen and worked the final 4.0 innings and amassed seven strikeouts.
In the nightcap, USC Aiken plated a run in each of the first four innings en route to the 4-2 win.
In the first, Tripp's single to center field plated McQuillan, who led off the game with a single.
Joseph Mozingo led off the second with a double and eventually scored on a throwing error by the catcher as
Scott Huntley swiped second base.
Leading 2-0 in the third, Cyr doubled down the right field line. After
Dalton Graves pushed him to third with a single, a wild pitch allowed Cyr to race home.
With Holder's team leading 3-2 in the fourth,
Josh Sharp reached on a throwing error. After stealing second, Huntley doubled him home for the 4-2 edge.
An outstanding performance from
Jacob Fletcher on the mound helped the squad take the win. Fletcher went the distance, striking out eight.
At the plate, Huntley led the way with three hits and one RBI. Cyr posted two hits and scored once.
The Pacers return to action Friday, Apr. 22 against North Georgia at 6 p.m.
