HICKORY, N.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team lost an 11-0 decision at No. 15 Lenoir-Rhyne Tuesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 8-10 on the season while the Bears improve to 21-1.
Interim head coach
Michael Holder's team saw five student-athletes register base hits in the contest.
Trailing 2-0 in the second inning,
Josh Sharp belted a one-out single to right field on a 2-1 count. However, he was erased trying to steal, ending the inning.
In the fourth, leadoff hitter
Sean McQuillan laid down a bunt for a single on an 0-1 count. Two batters later,
Jeff Cyr ripped a double to the gap in left center, putting runners in scoring position. Back-to-back outs ended the threat.
With two down in the sixth,
Jackson Hannon saw the first pitch and promptly tallied a base hit through the right side of the infield.
In the ninth,
Joseph Mozingo worked the count full before getting ahold of the pay-off pitch for a single. He then moved to second on a wild pitch.
Jacob Fletcher got the start on the mound. He recorded a strikeout.
Luke Parker had a pair of strikeouts over 2.2 frames.
Austin Sandifer and
Austin Hohm combined to pitch the next 2.1 frames.
Dylan Wilhelm struck out a batter over two-thirds of an inning.
AJ Deibel worked a scoreless eighth inning, striking out the side.
