GREENWOOD, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team notched a 72-67 win at Lander Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 14-7 overall and 8-3 in league play.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
LaTreavin Black and
Jalen McCoy as each netted 13 points.
Tehree Horn hit for 11 points while
Preston Parks accounted for 10 markers.
David Strother chipped in nine points while
Tyler Johnson netted eight points.
Horn led the way with seven rebounds while McCoy accounted for three steals. Strother registered five assists.
Lander built a 26-21 lead with 8:44 to go in the first half, but
Samba Ndiaye connected on a lay-up. Johnson pulled the home team within one on a lay-up. Trailing 32-28, Horn hit a shot with 6:34 to play. Black's lay-up with 1:54 to play gave USC Aiken a 36-32 lead as they held a two-point edge going into the second half.
USC Aiken built a 10-point edge when Johnson hit a pair of free throws with 10:40 to go. Lander pulled within four at 66-62, but Strother found McCoy for a bucket with 4:25 to play.
The Bearcats made it a one-score game with five seconds to play, but Horn secured the victory with a pair of charity tosses. Black registered a steal in the waning seconds for the five-point win.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 26-of-49 from the floor (53.1 percent), including seven-of-17 from the three-point line (41.2 percent). The team connected on 12-of-18 from the charity stripe (66.7 percent).
Vanderslice's team out-rebounded the home team 32-27. USC Aiken recorded 32 points in the paint and forced the Bearcats into 12 turnovers.
