Worley’s Three-Point Shot Guides Pacers To Overtime Win

AIKEN, S.C.Jentri Worley buried a three-point shot with three seconds to play in overtime, helping the University of South Carolina Aiken women's basketball team knock off Catawba 68-67.

The Pacers are now 4-3 on the season while the Indians fall to 7-1.

Head coach Mark Miller's team was led by Breanna Gustave's 18-point, seven-rebound performance. Worley connected for 17 points while snagging five rebounds. Emily Trushel added 12 points and seven boards while Delaney Trushel added seven points and 12 rebounds. Annalise Malone and Marta Rivera each chipped in seven markers in the win.

USC Aiken jumped out to a 10-2 lead after Delaney Trushel drained a jumper at the 6:13 mark. However, the visitors managed to close the gap to four at the end of the period with the score at 13-9.

Leading 16-13, Gustave found the bottom of the net on a jumper. Seventeen seconds later, Emily Trushel hit two free throws for a 20-13 edge. Up 20-15, Delaney Trushel connected on a three-ball off a pass from Madison Williams. With 5:22 to play, Worley hit two free throws for a 25-15 advantage. The Pacers increased the lead to 13 when Gustave nailed a shot from distance with 1:11 to go in the stanza but the visitors cut the margin to 10 at the break, 33-23.

The Pacers led by 11, 46-35, entering the fourth quarter but the Indians managed to knot the score at 55-55 with 25 seconds left in regulation. Worley hit two free throws to go up by two with nine seconds to play but the visitors forced overtime with a lay-up.

Miller's team trailed 62-57 with 3:42 to go in overtime but Worley hit a jumper. Malone made a pair of free throws to pull within one with 2:45 on the clock. At the 2:11 mark, Worley buried a tough shot in the lane for a one-point edge.

Down by two, 65-63, Worley hit two charity tosses with 11 seconds to play. The Indians hit a deep two-point shot with six seconds to go. Rushing up the court, Worley once again drilled a runner from behind the three-point stripe for the final tally.

For the game, USC Aiken hit 22-of-58 from the floor (37.9 percent), including eight-of-18 from the three-point stripe (44.4 percent). The squad also connected on 16-of-20 from the charity stripe.
