Pacers Race Past Saints

GAFFNEY, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team picked up an 86-62 victory at Limestone Wednesday evening.

The Pacers are now 3-2 on the season while the Saints fall to 1-3.

Head coach Mark Vanderslice's team was led by Karon Boyd's 14 points. Jalen McCoy and DeShawn Thomas notched 13 points apiece while Tehree Horn chipped in 11 markers to go along with five rebounds.

Tyler Johnson added nine points and five boards while Daniel Parrish accounted for seven points and seven rebounds. He also registered four assists and a pair of blocks. Samba Ndiaye shared team-high honors with two blocks.  

USC Aiken never trailed in the contest and the score was only tied in the early going. Jameel Rideout found Boyd for a three-ball to make it 11-8. Up 16-14, McCoy converted back-to-back lay-ups for a six-point edge. Leading 24-20, Christopher Brown found Devin Evans for a three-point bucket. Less than a minute later, Boyd's shot from downtown off a pass from McCoy moved the score to 30-20.

A jumper by Horn extended the margin to nine, 39-30, with 1:50 to go. Daniel Parrish found Horn for another basket at the 1:14 mark. Leading 41-32, Demitrios Dixon reeled off the final five points of the half, including a shot from distance at the buzzer for a 46-32 advantage at the break.

After the Saints cut the margin to eight, 54-46, Boyd and Brown each hit a free throw. McCoy's jumper pushed the margin to 12 with just under 13 minutes to play.

With the score at 60-49, the Pacers put the game away. McCoy hit two free throws and Parrish made a lay-up for a 64-49 lead. Parrish made two charity tosses for a 17-point edge with 10:48 to go. Moments later, USC Aiken increased the advantage to 20 and never looked back.

For the game, Vanderslice's team shot 28-of-52 from the floor (53.8 percent), including seven-of-10 from downtown (50.0 percent). The squad also got to the free throw line 30 times and hit 23 attempts (76.7 percent).

USC Aiken outrebounded the home team 38-29. The visitors registered 35 points off the bench and held a 12-6 edge in second-chance points. USC Aiken swatted five shots in the victory.
