YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken volleyball team recorded a pair of wins at Young Harris Saturday by scores of 3-1 and 3-0.
The Pacers are now 12-6 overall, including 3-4 in league play.
Emily Lammers led everyone with 17 kills in the victory.
Abbey Schad torched the Mountain Lions with nine kills while
Sadie McKay notched eight kills.
Anna Sommer chipped in six in the victory.
Mallory Barash accounted for 21 assists while
Caroline Foster dished out 20.
Defensively,
Kari Mercer totaled 15 digs while Barash and McKay had six apiece. At the service line, Lammers sliced the defense for three aces.
At the net,
Brooke Wroten was in on two blocks while Lammers had two total blocks.
Head coach
Glenn Cox's team led 19-18 in the first frame before embarking on a 6-1 spurt to close out the set. During the closeout, Lammers had a pair of aces while
Tucker Patterson and Sommer notched kills.
With the sets tied at 1-1, the third frame was tied at 20-20. USC Aiken shut down the Mountain Lions with a 5-1 run for the victory. Lammers got things going with a kill. Then,
Kaitlyn Rodriguez served up an ace. Up 23-21, Schad slammed home a kill before
Kaitlyn Lund finished off the home team with a kill.
The fourth set was close for the most part but McKay hammered home a kill. Mercer served up an ace before McKay got another point. Leading 23-20, Schad posted a kill before Barash wrapped up the match with an ace.
In the second victory, a 3-0 sweep, Lammers led everyone with 11 kills. McKay and Sommer accounted for eight kills apiece while Schad and Lund garnered six and five, respectively.
Barash led the way with 28 assists. She also accounted for five aces while Lammers and Mercer had three and two, respectively.
Defensively,
Izabella De Lima and McKay posted nine digs each. Barash and Mercer tallied six digs each.
At the net, Lund was in on four blocks while Schad and Sommer each had two block assists.
In the first set, Barash found McKay for a kill to make it 21-16. Up 21-17, an error made it 22-17. Schad slammed home a kill. Moments later, Lammers and Lund each added kills to finish off the home team, 25-19.
USC Aiken rattled off four of the final five points in the second stanza for the 25-14 win.
Sophie Meredith found Sommer for a point before Lammers confused the defense with a sensational serve. Meredith connected with Sommer to make it 24-14 before the Mountain Lions committed another error for the 11-point win.
Up 22-17 in the third set, McKay slashed the defense for a kill. Leading 24-19, Schad ended the match with a kill off a pass from Barash.
