AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men's basketball team lost a 73-52 contest at Augusta Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 12-6 overall and 6-2 in league play. The Jaguars stand at 15-3 on the year and 5-3 against PBC foes.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's team was led by
Tehree Horn's 16 points.
Jalen McCoy added 12 while
David Strother chipped in nine.
LaTreavin Black snagged eight boards in the loss.
USC Aiken jumped out to an 11-4 lead behind the strength of McCoy. Horn found McCoy for a lay-up to get things going. McCoy hit a runner for a 4-0 advantage. Horn's three-ball pushed the advantage to 7-2 at the 18:07 mark. Leading 9-4, Horn converted a lay-up with 16:26 to play. A pair of free throws by Parks pushed the score to 17-11.
A 19-0 run by Augusta made it 30-17 but Vanderslice's team would battle back. The visitors rattled off a 9-0 spurt to make it 30-26. Strother started things with a jumper. Horn hit a lay-up and a jumper for a 30-23 score. Horn hit a free throw and Strother's two free throws pulled the visitors within four. However, a 5-0 run by the Jaguars made it 35-26 at halftime.
Augusta led 39-26 but Strother found Parks for a three-ball, cutting the margin to 10. The Pacers cut the margin to nine at 43-34 with 16:38 to go on a three-point bucket from Horn, but that was as close as the team would get the rest of the way.
The Jaguars led 51-34 but
Mason McMurray nailed a three-point shot.
Tyler Johnson hit a lay-up as did Horn, pulling the team within 10 with 10:17 to go.
For the game, USC Aiken hit 20-of-71 from the floor (28.2 percent), including five-of-23 from distance (21.7 percent). The team hit seven-of-11 from the charity stripe (63.6 percent). The team grabbed 17 offensive rebounds.
