AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women's soccer team lost a 6-0 decision to Catawba Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference contest.
The Pacers are now 2-3 on the season while the Indians improve to 5-0-1.
Head coach
Tina Murphy's team played much of the first period in its own defensive third of the pitch. With Catawba attacking, the tenacious defense kept the visitors at bay. Strong play around the top of the box kept the Indians off kilter, not allowing very many good looks on frame.
When the visitors did have a good shot,
Mary Cecil was up for the challenge. She stopped a pair of shots, including one from near point-blank range.
Catawba managed to get on the board in the 33
rd minute for a 1-0 lead.
Tashiana Kwatowski had USC Aiken's lone shot in the first half, but it missed high. The Indians would take the slim margin into halftime.
The visitors were fouled in the box less than a minute into the second half and promptly converted the penalty kick for a 2-0 edge. Catawba tacked on four more goals later in the half for the final tally.
For the match, Kwatowski had the team's only shot. Cecil recorded a pair of saves in the match.
The Pacers return to action Saturday when they host Clayton State at 3 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
